These 7 pants styles will be a welcome addition to any wardrobe in 2023
By Emma Spedding
Pants styles: The New Year is an excellent time to take stock of your wardrobe, and before making any new purchases, take a moment to reflect on the items you never wear, the outfits you always depend on and any gaps in your wardrobe that you want to fill for the year ahead. Here at Vogue, we are big believers in the concept of a "capsule wardrobe" and making sure you have the foundations and everyday basics nailed.
A pair of navy blue tailored pants might not seem like the most exciting purchase, but if you’ve carefully considered quality and fit, it will be an item that sits at the heart of your wardrobe. The Spring-Summer 2023 collections were filled with lots of ideas for how to style pants, from the simple to the more head-turning. One of the most popular styling moves was to make exceptional tailoring the main focus of the outfit, and pair pants with a simple crop top, button-down shirt or tank top. The best thing about this is that it's really easy to replicate with pieces you likely already own.
We have combed through the collections to bring you our guide of the seven pants trends that will be popular in 2023. We have focused on styles that will have longevity and that will be really versatile when it comes to styling. You’ll notice that all of these styling choices are relatively simple, with a focus on elevated basics. Stand-out looks include the straight-leg black jeans at Dior, navy wide-leg styles at Stella McCartney, and the boxy cargo pants at Diesel.

Silver is one of the biggest trends we saw on the SS23 runways, and one of our favorite styling ideas was to center an outfit around a pair of high-shine metallic trousers, as seen above at Isabel Marant. These will look just as good with a T-shirt and button-down shirt.
Stella McCartney Spring-Summer 2023
When it comes to pants silhouettes, wide-leg styles have been dominating for the past few seasons and they continue to be a style with longevity. We loved the wide-leg navy pants with a satin finish at Stella McCartney, styled with a black cropped blazer — an outfit formula to replicate in 2023.

If you’re not afraid to make a statement with your denim, we recommend trying a pair of exaggerated, slouchy jeans. We love how these look with a raffia jacket and matching raffia jewelry, as seen at Jacquemus.
Dior Fall-Winter 2022-2023
This look from Dior confirms that an all-black outfit can be the coolest option and the opposite of boring. Look for a high waisted-pair of black jeans with a wider straight-leg fit.

White pants are a timeless summer essential, and they look the most modern when they have a wide-leg fit and high-rise waistband. Pair with a trench coat in another color, as seen at Ralph Lauren for a laid-back approach to suiting.
Diesel Spring-Summer 2023
Love or hate them, there's no denying that cargo pants are back in a big way. They have been a celebrity favorite for the past year or so, as Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Bieber, and Gigi and Bella Hadid are all fans. One of our favorite ways we saw them styled on the SS23 runways was at Diesel, where a sand-colored slouchy pair of cargos was paired with a denim halter top.

A smart pantsuit is a hard-working foundation in any wardrobe, as the blazer and pants can also be worn individually with more casual items for a more relaxed look. When it comes to silhouette, go for a high-waisted pair of pants with a loose fit on the leg. The oversized fit will give corporate suiting a fashion edge.
